First Day Home
I don’t know quite what I expected from this first day with our new dog, but I certainly hadn’t expected it to feel quite this… peaceful. This pup is calm and gentle and friendly; he leash-walked like a pro, he cooperated during his first sink bath, and he hasn’t made a peep yet – not one yelp or bark or whimper.
He’s beside me in a wire crate where he has slept – peacefully – for most of the day. My movements in the office cause him to open his eyes, and when I make eye contact with him, his tail thumps against the wire of the crate. His tail wagging prompts in me a corresponding feeling – a combination of recognition and affection — that’s hard-to-describe.
I think we’re bonding.
